Most areas have either :

  • Kerbside collection (in some cases, cut the tree and put in the green waste bin - Some allow the whole Christmas tree to be placed by the kerb), or
  • Drop-off locations or
  • Both

In ALL cases, remove all ornaments, tinsel, decorations, lights, stands, pots, planters, netting, etc.

Some household waste and recycling collections have been slightly delayed as a result of the national shortage of HGV drivers, which is affecting haulage sectors throughout the UK. Most residents will not see any change from their normal waste collections dates as over 98% of all collections are unaffected, but...

Bedfordshire

  • Bedfordshire -
    Simply leave your real tree next to your recycling bin, on your normal collection day between Monday, 10 January and Friday, 21 January 2022.Please ensure it is placed separately and not in any bin or bag. Find out when your recycling collection day is. Trees should be no taller than 6 feet tall, with trunks no greater than 3 inches in diameter.Alternatively, you can also recycle trees at your local recycling centre.

  • Braintree - kerbside collection,
    You can also check the collection calendar or sign up for their text message service to get reminders of bin collection dates.
    Garden waste collections are suspended during the winter months.
  • Brentwood - kerbside collection,
    Collection of garden waste is suspended from December 25 to the second week in January .
    Then take put your Christmas tree by the kerb for recycling on your garden waste collection day.
    Cut it in half if it is in excess of 6ft tall.

  • Colchester - kerbside collection,
    Christmas trees can be recycled through St Helena Hospice's Tree-cycle scheme by signing up here, or sawn up and placed in the garden waste sacks/bin.
  • Epping forest - ?? They don't say...

  • Harlow - kerbside collection,
    You can also book a real Christmas tree collection for £2.15 a tree using the green waste bagged collection form Book a real Christmas tree collection. The council will be donating all the Christmas tree fees.
  • Maldon - They don't really say...
  • Rochford - kerbside collection,
    Real Christmas trees can be cut up and placed inside your compostables bin with the lids shut or disposed of at the recycling centre at Castle Road, Rayleigh.
  • Southend - kerbside collection,
    Real Christmas trees will be collected for composting on your scheduled collection day between January 6 and January 28. Please remove all decorations and leave on the edge of your property.
  • Tendring - kerbside collection,
    Please note there are no garden waste collections over Christmas and the New Year. If you have a real Christmas tree we can collect on your next collection date after the Christmas period if placed out next to your brown garden waste bin.
    Please put your brown bin on the boundary of your property closest to the highway by 7.00am on your collection day. We do not accept extra garden waste, all waste should be put in your bin loose and the lid should be closed.

  • Uttlesford and Elsenham -
    Uttlesford District Council is providing skips and refuse vehicles at locations around the district - simply take along your Christmas tree, and other green waste, for disposal. The recycled trees can be turned into good quality compost or soil conditioner, or into chippings.Christmas Tree Collection Dates No bins will be collected during Christmas week.

  • North Herts Council -
    Houses: Put next to brown bin (if you subscribe to garden waste collections), or at Household Waste Recycling Centres or some garden centres
    Flats: Take to Household Waste Recycling Centres or collection points at garden centres
